Reelbits, The Prelude

No, that's not a movie title.  Maybe I should hit IMDB and make sure.

I have been toying with idea of starting a more creative blog for some time and now seems like the perfect opportunity.  For those of you who do not know me, I own another, more "dramatic" blog that is a nice outlet for me emotionally, but can be a real downer.  Lately, I've hit a wall - I've discovered what happens when you need an escape from that kind of subject matter, yet try to force the writing process.  You experience something that's worse than writer's block.  My entire creative process has been shut down.  I can't listen to music, I can't play my guitar, I can't even read.

I put everything aside for a while and decided that, eventually, some small spark would ignite and I suppose it has.  The past few days, the music started to kick again and the guitar is in my hands, but I still don't want to push the writing.  The subject matter can be a bit too daunting.  I'm going to switch it up.

And, so, I give you Reelbits, my very own movie review blog.  Hey, everybody has one - why not me?  The subject matter will be there *always* and that forces my hand.  Even on the worst, rainy, crappy Saturday afternoons, when I feel like my mood has been run through a sausage grinder, I won't be able to say, "Eh, I've got nothing to do.  Guess I'll pull this blanket over my head, eat a two-pound bag of Sour Patch Kids and cry in my hands."  NO!  I will eat a two-pound bag of Sour Patch Kids, watch a damned movie, and then give the public, who absolutely did not ask for it, my opinion on said movie!  Comedy?  Drama?  Who cares?

Don't expect genius, of course.  If you know me, then you wouldn't.  But I will try to keep it fun and light... no need to give a movie an 8.7 out of 10, for instance.  I'm far too indecisive for that kind of rating system.  It takes me fifteen minutes to decide whether or not I want one or two pieces of cheese on a sandwich, let alone if the cheese should be cheddar or swiss.  Also, these aren't going to be new films.  As much as I'd love to spend an entire weekend seeing every release, it's not going to happen.  But nor are these going to be ancient classics either (unless I'm incredibly bored...).  Again, the purpose is to keep it light - hit the Redbox for a new-to-DVD flick, grab some candy, have some fun.  For me, it's more important to keep the writing process moving.

Speaking of low intelligence, I have to keep it as cerebral as a Farrelly brothers movie (hey, first reference!) because I'm new, right?  Given time, should I decide this is something I want to pursue still as a hobby, then I'm sure it'll sharpen.  Until then...

Let's see what happens.
